1. Introduction

Welcome to Coach Icarus, an AI-powered fitness coaching application developed by Icarus Ventures LLC. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information. By using our app, you consent to the practices described herein.

2. Garmin Data

This section describes how Coach Icarus collects, uses, processes, stores, and shares data received from Garmin when you connect your Garmin Connect account.

  • Collection: We receive Garmin device-sourced data through the Garmin Health API after you authorize the connection in Garmin Connect. We do not collect this data from your device directly. Data may include activities (including GPS), heart rate, sleep, HRV, stress, daily summaries, steps, calories, epochs, user metrics (such as VO2 max), and body composition.
  • Use and processing: We use Garmin data solely to provide and improve your coaching experience: analyzing fitness and recovery, generating activity feedback, and building personalized training plans. We do not use Garmin data for advertising, marketing, or ad targeting.
  • Storage: After Garmin transmits the data to our platform, we store it in our database (Supabase), encrypted at rest and in transit. The web application is hosted on Vercel.
  • Third parties and AI: Garmin data is processed by third-party services we use to operate Coach Icarus. We use third-party AI providers (such as OpenAI) to generate coaching insights, training plans, and activity feedback; we send only what is needed for that analysis. We also use Supabase for storage, Vercel for hosting, PostHog for product analytics and masked session replay, Google Analytics and Firebase Analytics for optional website and app usage analytics, and Sentry for crash reporting and performance monitoring. Health and fitness metrics are not sent to analytics providers for advertising. We do not sell Garmin data. We do not share Garmin data with other third parties except as required by law.

3. Information We Collect

  • Personal Information: We collect information such as your name, email address, age, gender, height, and weight when you register or use our app.
  • Fitness and Health Data: We connect to your Garmin device to collect data including activity levels, heart rate, sleep patterns, GPS data, steps, and calories burned.
  • Garmin Health API: We access your fitness and health data through the Garmin Health API, including activities, heart rate, sleep, HRV, stress, and body composition data.
  • Diagnostics and Analytics: We collect crash reports, performance metrics, and in-app usage (screens and taps) to keep the app reliable. Session recordings of app usage may be captured with text inputs and images masked so we can diagnose issues without reading what you type.

4. How We Use Your Information

  • Service Provision: To personalize your fitness coaching experience, analyze your health metrics, and provide tailored plans.
  • Improvement of Services: To enhance our app, develop new features, and optimize user experience.
  • AI Processing: We use artificial intelligence to analyze your health and fitness data, generating personalized coaching insights, training plans, and activity feedback.
  • Communication: We may communicate with you about updates, services, or promotions if you have opted to receive such information.

5. Health Data & Advertising

Coach Icarus is committed to protecting the privacy of your health and fitness data. Specifically:

  • No Advertising Use: We do not use your health or fitness data for advertising, marketing, or ad-targeting purposes. This data is used solely to provide and improve your personalized coaching experience.
  • No Data Sale: We do not sell your health or fitness data to third parties. Your data is never traded, rented, or otherwise transferred for monetary or other consideration.
  • Limited Processing: Health data is only processed to generate coaching insights, training plans, and activity feedback. It is never used for any purpose beyond what is described in this policy.

These commitments are reflected in our App Store Privacy Labels and Play Store Data Safety section.

6. Sharing of Information

  • Third-Party Services: We use third-party services for data storage, processing, diagnostics, and analytics. These providers adhere to high security standards including:
    • Supabase: Data is encrypted at rest and in transit with AES-256 and TLS 1.2+, with regular security audits.
    • Garmin Health API: Used to receive your fitness and health data from Garmin Connect. Subject to Garmin's privacy policy and data handling standards.
    • AI Providers: We use third-party AI services (such as OpenAI) to process your fitness data and generate coaching insights. Data sent to AI providers is limited to what is needed for analysis.
    • PostHog: Used for product analytics, feature flags, and masked session replay so we can understand how the app is used and fix problems. Health and fitness metrics are not sent to PostHog for advertising.
    • Google Analytics and Firebase Analytics: Used to measure website discovery, page usage, and app screen usage. We do not send health or fitness metrics to Google Analytics, and website analytics is optional.
    • Sentry: Used for crash reporting, performance monitoring, and on-error session replay with input masking so we can diagnose failures.
    • Google API: Complies with Google's security standards, using encryption and access controls.
    • Vercel: Offers compliance with GDPR and CCPA, ensuring data is encrypted and stored securely.
  • Legal Compliance: We may disclose your data if required by law or to protect our rights.

7. Data Security

We prioritize your data security. Our third-party partners implement:

  • Encryption for data at rest and during transmission.
  • Compliance with industry standards like ISO 27001 for information security management.
  • Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.

8. User Rights

  • Opt-Out: You can choose not to share certain data during initial login or change your settings within the app at any time.
  • Data Deletion: You can request permanent deletion of your data through the app settings or when terminating your account. Deleting your account erases your profile and all health and Garmin-derived data, including synced activities and coaching history. Limited billing and audit records are retained for approximately seven years, as described under Data Retention below.
  • Subscription Cancellation: You can cancel your subscription at any time from the app. If you need a refund, contact us at support@coachicarus.com and we will handle it case by case.

9. Data Storage

Your data is stored by our third-party providers:

  • Vercel: Data centers in the USA and Europe.
  • Supabase: Data centers in various global locations, including the USA.
  • Garmin Connect: Data is transmitted from Garmin's servers to our platform via the Garmin Health API.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will notify you of any changes through the app.

11. Data Retention

Upon account deletion or data deletion request, we will remove all personal information we hold about you from our systems and third-party storage, including your health and Garmin-derived data. We retain a deletion tombstone and limited billing and audit records for approximately seven years where required for tax, billing, and audit purposes; these records are not used for coaching and contain no health or Garmin device data.

12. Service Disclaimer

This service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. Coach Icarus is a fitness and wellness tool and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before beginning any exercise program or making changes based on information provided by this service.
